“Colors of Architecture” - Architectural Magazine Special Issue 2025-7 (Japanese)
The Journal of Architecture and Building Science (JABS) of the Architectural Institute of Japan (AIJ) published a special issue on architecture and colour from various perspectives, including traditional craftsmanship, colour restoration, colour planning studies,
architectural design, painting materials, image theory, and historiography. The cover image refers to a picture book entitled “Colors” by filmmaker Abbās Kiyārustamī (1940–2016), known for his movie “Where Is the Friend's House?”. He places two slightly different
shades of the same colour on facing pages, while the rest of the surface remains uncoloured. One of the articles is by SG ECD member Sari Yamamoto on ‘Evolution and Future of Colour Design for Architecture’ (pp. 10–13). Another article is by Jean-Philippe
Lenclos, winner of the AIC CADE Award 2021, who writes about ‘Geography of Colour: Sources and Developments’ (pp. 20–21).

United States - Inter-Society Color Council
Color Studies Working Group (CHSTM) 2025-26 Meetings
We are pleased to announce that the first meeting of the Color Studies Working Group (www.chstm.org/group/color-studies) for
the 2025-26 year will take place on Wednesday, 10 September, 12:00-1:30 US EDT (UTC -4:00).
CSWG brings together scholars in all fields whose work addresses color and its issues.
The meeting topic, "Approaches to Color" returns to the theme of multivalency we addressed in the June 2025 meeting ("On the Multivalent Nature of Colors ... Or ... What can Prussian
blue tell us about color in the world?") by giving participants a chance to consider different frameworks for color in arts, humanities, social sciences, and color science. Plan on some preparatory readings, and an open discussion with opportunities to
share your outlook as a researcher and consumer of color.
CSWG brings together scholars engaged in color-inclusive research and those who want to explore color studies to benefit their work. We want to enhance your knowledge about color and
help you build alliances among those who study color. At our meetings, you’ll have opportunities to workshop a paper or presentation, lead or contribute to discussions of formative works, and work together on Zoom-based hands-on projects.
A new feature this year will be
Nuances, an opportunity for graduate color-inclusive researchers students, young scholars and others to present a 2-minute description of their work. Learn more on our Resources page.
The Color Studies Working Group is a research project of the Consortium for the History of Science, Technology & Medicine,
www.chstm.org.
To join us,
We look forward to seeing you on the 10th. Next meetings will be held on the 2nd Wed. of each month.
