AIC2025, 16th Congress of the AIC, "Color for Future"

The upcoming AIC2025, the 16th AIC Congress, has received 208 outstanding abstract submissions from 28 countries worldwide, solidifying its status as the most significant international color conference of 2025. This remarkable global participation ensures a diverse and enriching exchange of ideas, making the event a cornerstone for advancements in the field.

The congress presents a rich and varied agenda. Attendees can look forward to an array of activities such as interactive workshops, the Executive Committee (EC) meeting, a warm welcome reception, keynote and invited lectures, oral and poster sessions, a general assembly, dedicated study group discussions, and the esteemed Judd and CADE Award ceremonies and lectures, and the new Sphere Award presentation.

To enhance the experience, the congress will take place in a uniquely historic setting—the century-old tobacco factory located within the Songshan Cultural and Creative Park (SCCP) in lively Taipei City. Surrounded by contemporary art galleries, retail centers, convenience stores, and accessible MRT stations, this venue blends heritage with modern convenience.

With participants’ flexibility in mind, the organizing committee has rescheduled the excursion to the congress’s final day. On the last day, attendees can choose between two excursion options: one includes a visit to the world-renowned National Palace Museum in Taipei, while the other features a tour of the Yingge Ceramics Museum and the New Taipei City Art Museum.

Colour Literacy Forum 12 - Beyond Hue: Reframing Colour for a Multidimensional World

The Colour Literacy Forum #12 was held virtually on May 17, 2025, and featured insightful presentations by Ellen Divers and Esther Hagenlocher. Both speakers shared groundbreaking research and teaching practices on contemporary colour design thinking and cultural heritage. Their talks, followed by a dynamic Q&A session, highlighted the need to move beyond common misconceptions rooted in the traditional "hue paradigm." They advocated for a more nuanced understanding of colour’s psychological and cultural dimensions to support more informed design decisions. This forum marked the second installment in the 2025 series “Facts and Myths about Colour.” Watch the recording—and previous editions—on the CLP YouTube Channel.

Harald Arnkil’s PhD Achievement: “Redefining Colour in Contemporary Art”

The Study Group on Colour Education and the Colour Literacy Project warmly congratulate our esteemed member, renowned visual artist, and colour researcher Harald Arnkil on the successful completion and defence of his PhD thesis, "Exploring Colour in Contemporary Art – Epistemic Boundaries and Artistic Practices," at Aalto University on Friday, May 30.

In this groundbreaking work, Arnkil explores how contemporary artists select and apply colour, challenging long-standing myths about its ineffable nature. His research opens new avenues for dialogue on colour as both an artistic medium and a cognitive framework.

Harald’s thesis is now available as a book and can be ordered from: https://shop.aalto.fi/p/2275-exploring-colour-in-contemporary-art/

Inaugural Colour Literacy Project (CLP) Post-Secondary Partners Roundtable

May 31 marked the inaugural CLP Post-Secondary Partners Roundtable, a digital platform created as a way for global educators to share insights, experiences, and ideas to grow the 21st-century Colour Literacy Partners Network together. The 75-minute Roundtable included an overview of CLP 2.0, the current phase focused on outreach to global colour educators to collaborate via a Top-down / Bottom-up approach: Under 18 (Pre-School - High School) and Post-Secondary or Adult Learners (College, University, Industry, Community).

Two partners shared presentations about their approach to teaching colour to university students, followed by Roundtable conversations about the challenges and opportunities encountered in the development of each partner’s innovative projects and incorporating CLP exercises into their courses. The next Partner Roundtable will be held in the fall of 2025.
